Allow about 60 minutes for the whole thing, including the elevator ride down and back up.

The queue for the elevator can eat a chunk of that in high season, though the record does not state typical wait times. Some of the tunnels end at viewing balconies rather than portals, so the moment you came for lasts a few minutes, not the whole hour.

If your tour day is tight, a cheaper coach ticket plus the boat may beat a coach ticket plus this, and the opposite is true if the boat is closed. On tours where the upgrade costs more than the walk-in price, doing it on your own during free time can be the cheaper route.

Journey Behind the Falls or Cave of the Winds

Cave of the Winds is the American-side equivalent, a series of wooden decks at the foot of the Bridal Veil Falls. Reaching it means crossing the Rainbow Bridge, which needs a passport and whatever US entry document your nationality requires, so no tour on this site offers it. Journey Behind the Falls is the option you can actually book on a day trip from Toronto without a border crossing, and it is open every day of the year while the Cave of the Winds decks close for winter. If you are traveling on your own rather than on a tour, Niagara Parks bundles the attraction into combined passes. The Adventure Pass Plus costs C$90 plus tax and includes Journey Behind the Falls and the White Water Walk among other attractions. A cheaper Wonder Pass at C$65 also exists.

The exact contents change by season, so check niagaraparks.com before buying rather than assuming what is inside. Doing It Yourself from Toronto

GO Transit trains run from Union Station to Niagara Falls all year, with the most trips on weekends. Fares are distance-based and paid with PRESTO or a contactless card. From the Niagara Falls station the WEGO bus connects to Table Rock, with a 24-hour pass at C$16 adult and C$12 child.

Driving yourself, Falls Parking (Lot A) across from Table Rock costs C$31.86 a day plus HST with re-entry.
